Ivermectin is classified as an anti-parasite medication(roundworm infections).
Ivermectin is a treatment for infections due to certain parasites in the body.
Ivermectin is currently under trial as a treatment for novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, the virus which causes COVID-19. It has been found that ivermectin works by reducing the number of cell-associated viral DNA by 99.8 % in 24 hours. Although more evidence is needed to determine the effectiveness of the treatment of COVID-19.
Side effects of ivermectin:
In the treatment of river blindness(onchocerciasis), reactions to the dying parasites during the first few days of treatment along with:
- joint pain.
- Tender/swollen lymph nodes.
- Eye swelling/redness/pain.
- Vision changes.
